The Aesthetics scale measures values that include an interest in art, literature music and a lifestyle that is guided by imagination, culture and attractive surroundings. We likely find those scoring higher on this scale focusing on the quality of work products and enjoying work environments that provide opportunities to create more innovative solutions. To provide a deeper interpretation of the Aesthetics scale, we look to the item themes to gain a better understanding of how the value operates for the individual. Provided below are brief descriptions of each of the Aesthetics themes.
Lifestyles
Those scoring higher on Lifestyles likely will surround themselves with art and strive to create an environment that is attractive to them. We may find higher scorers spending their time in museums or looking at how to improve the quality of work products. This may include focusing on the colour schemes of PowerPoint presentations or the layout of their office space. Lower scorers typically do not spend a lot of time on the artistic appeal of their surroundings but rather prefer a conventional lifestyle that is more steady and structured.
Beliefs
People scoring higher on Beliefs tend to view art and literature as a way of life. They find that beauty is most often found in art and/or literature by the way it moves others and allows them to express themselves in a more individualised manner. Lower scorers tend to be indifferent to aesthetic values or artistic self expression and don’t have the need to explore innovation, they may even resist it.
Occupational Preferences
Higher scorers prefer jobs that allow them to explore their imagination and use a more creative problem solving approach. We may find higher scores choosing careers in advertising, journalism, art, music or the entertainment industry. Lower scorers likely will not be as drawn to these occupations, and may instead seek out jobs that seem more practical and require more logical thinking.
Aversions
Those scoring higher likely get frustrated if they are unable to change the look and feel of work products or their surroundings. We likely will find them rearranging their office or updating documents to their standards of quality. They may also get irritated with those who don’t share their same interest in art, culture and may also shy away from those who prefer predictability. Lower scorers will be less concerned with the appearance of their surroundings and will not spend a whole lot of time focusing on the look and feel of work products.
Preferred Associates
We likely will find higher scorers interacting with others who share their same enthusiasm for the new and original. They likely appreciate others who put in an equal effort to creating attractive surroundings as well as choose to focus on the quality and appearance of work products. They likely stray away from those who are more predictable and choose to take are more practical approach in their business decisions. Lower scorers don’t spend a lot of time interacting with those who are more “artsy” but likely prefer those who are more grounded in their decision style.
